Problem: Poor Mold Detail
During the first casting, the surface of the original model was treated with a low-quality primer, and Inhibit X was not applied. As a result, a chemical inhibition occurred at the contact points between the silicone (Sorta-Clear 40) and the model surface. This prevented the silicone from curing properly in those areas, leading to loss of fine detail and incomplete curing.
Cause
Use of incompatible or cheap primer
No application of Inhibit X (required for sulfur/contaminated surfaces)
Direct contact between silicone and inhibited surface
Result: silicone partially cured with blurred or missing details
Solution
Since the mold keys retained good detail, a partial reconstruction approach was used:
Apply a proper primer compatible with silicone
Treat the model surface with Inhibit X
Rebuild missing areas using clay (restore lost geometry)
Recast the affected mold section (e.g., Part B)
Re-pour the final mold section to restore full detail
Result
The corrected process eliminates inhibition, allowing the silicone to cure evenly and capture sharp, clean details across the entire mold.

Seal the inner surfaces of the foam board mold box with transparent tape. After demolding, silicone can stick to raw foam board paper, so this step prevents damage and keeps surfaces clean.
Reinforcement
Use a generous amount of hot glue
Add support ribs to strengthen the walls
Seal all seams and joints carefully
This prevents leaks and deformation when pouring silicone.
